Dear Members,

I hope you are all keeping well and safe in these unprecedented times.

The latest Coronavirus lockdown has resulted in our first major interruption to fishing during the pandemic. The committee has therefore decided to forego any price increases for the 2021/22 season and to leave all subscription and associated charges the same as last year.

A thank you to all Officers, Committee Members and members for their assistance in keeping things going in difficult times.

Regards

Mick Lee, Chairman.

PADDLESWORTH WORK PARTY WEEKEND

The 2020 annual work party weekend was cancelled because of the pandemic and general maintenance of our sites has suffered over the last nine months. Members should be aware that some paths are in need of maintenance. The paths around the Burrows Lake are causing concern and contractors have visited the site to look at improvements. It is hoped that some of these urgent repairs can be carried out in 2021 and it will be important to have a good turnout for this year’s closure of Paddlesworth.

The dates for the work party weekend for 2021 are

3p.mFriday May 21st  3p.mSunday 23rd May

Please keep an eye on the Paddlesworth notice board for more information. The venue will be closed for fishing on this weekend except for volunteers at the work party who will be able to fish overnight. Come along and give a hand on one or both days and meet some of the other members. We are arranging for another barbeque.

WAITING LIST

At the beginning of 2021 there were 623 applicants on our waiting list. Those near the top of the list applied in January 2017 so that there is now a waiting time of 4- 5 years.

We will be sending out some membership application forms during April 2021.  However, the final number we send out will depend on the number of vacancies we have after the renewal deadline for existing members – 15th May 2020. Please help by ensuring you renew as early as possible. We cannot guarantee your renewal if it is received after the deadline.

Any new members for 2020/21 will only be enrolled from the waiting list – there will be no exceptions.

STOCKING AT PADDLESWORTH

During December there was a stocking of carp at Paddlesworth. This was the first stage of a stocking programme for the next few years.

The first stocking was of C4 carp for the Pollard and Rugby lakes. C4 carp are 4-summer carp, hand-picked and weighing between 9 and 13.5lbs. These were supplied, and personally delivered, by VS Fisheries. The Pollard Lake received 65 of these fish and 15 went into the Rugby Lake.

Dr Derek Laws

We are sorry to announce the passing of Dr Derek Laws. Derek served on the KAPS committee and was Society Chairman for many years before he retired in 2001.

Derek was a keen fly fisherman and the major player in the formation of the Trout Fishing arm of KAPS in 1954.

He will be sorely missed by his many friends within KAPS.
