We have now had confirmation from the Environment Agency that the Heaton Lake at Hoo has suffered from a severe bloom of Blue-green algae. As the weather cools down and with the latest rainfall, this is now dying back. It is still toxic however and anglers should wash their hands thoroughly if they come into contact with it.

At present there are no problems for the fish; dissolved oxygen levels are where they should be and there have been no reports of fish in distress.

As the algae dies back the rotting down process uses oxygen and it is at this stage that we must be most watchful for fish suffering problems.
