We are experiencing an algal bloom at Paddlesworth on the Pollard and Pads Lakes.

It is possible that this is the toxic Blue-green Algae and members should avoid contact with the algae.

We have requested help from the Environment Agency in confirming that this is a toxic species. The EA have been overwhelmed by similar calls and as they are working under the Covid restrictions, they have been unable to respond as quickly as normal.

They will be attending the outbreak as soon as possible. In the meantime members are advised to assume that the algae is toxic and take the necessary precautions to avoid contact.

Contact can cause skin irritation and drinking the infected water can cause serious illness.
